What does it mean to resurface a patio?

When a patio is resurfaced, a coating is applied to the top of an existing concrete surface. The coating is then customized with colors, patterns, and textures to create a specific look. Resurfacing allows you to create a completely new look without having to demolish your existing surface—so it’s a lot cleaner and less expensive (see Concrete Resurfacing Cost).

What are the design options?

Options are limitless when it comes to designing your patio with us at SUNDEK of Austin. We have many colors, textures, patterns, and aggregates to choose from. We can even install stamped concrete over existing concrete to create the look of wood, brick, cobblestone, limestone, and more.

If you have an idea for a custom design, contact us so we can talk about how we can make it happen!

Keep in mind that SUNDEK of Austin can work on just about any concrete surface. That means we can create a pathway, pool deck, or vertical surface that matches or coordinates with your patio.

Can a damaged patio be resurfaced?

Yes! As long as a surface is viable (which means it's structurally sound), it can be resurfaced even if it has cracks, chips, spalling, uneven parts, or other damage. When you work with an experienced professional contractor such as SUNDEK of Austin, we can also assess the damage and determine what caused it—that allows us to come up with ways to prevent the damage from happening again. In addition to being experts in concrete resurfacing, we are also experts in concrete repair.

Are decorative coatings slippery?

At SUNDEK of Austin, safety is one of our priorities. For patio surfaces where you'll have lots of foot traffic, we know you want to make sure it's safe for people to walk on. The way our products are formulated, in combination with the way we apply them, makes them resistant to slip-and-fall accidents.

Why choose concrete instead of pavers?

Creating the look of pavers with a concrete coating rather than actual pavers is beneficial for several reasons. For example, unlike pavers, which can move and settle if they’re not properly installed, concrete will remain in place for many years to come. Additionally, you don’t have to go through the trouble of finding stones with symmetrical shapes and similar color tones to fit your patio space. It’s also less expensive to create the look through a coating than to pay someone to hand-lay each piece.

Why choose resurfacing or staining instead of concrete paint?

Since concrete is porous, paint will peel over time. Resurfacing or concrete staining are far superior solutions.

How long does it take to resurface a concrete patio?

The time it will take to complete your project depends on the size of the patio, the condition of your existing surface, and the type of design you choose. One thing is for sure: we work efficiently to make sure you can use your beautiful new patio as soon as possible.

What is maintenance like?

Maintaining a resurfaced SUNDEK patio is surprisingly simple. General maintenance includes sweeping, blowing, or hosing off dirt and other debris every few weeks. For spots or stains that are hard to remove, you can use a pressure washer or non-abrasive commercial cleaner. Learn more about cleaning SUNDEK surfaces.

When you discuss your project with us, we will also talk about sealers, which will protect your patio for years to come. Our high-quality sealers make surfaces non porous so they don’t soak up things like oil or other spills. Sealers need to be reapplied every so often to properly protect your surface. A Happy Customer Shares Her Experience

Hear from homeowner Barbara White who hired us resurface her patio, courtyard, and walkways. We used aggregate effects on her walkways so specks in the surface would coordinate with stones in the surrounding landscape. In other areas, we applied textures and stamped the surface to create the appearance of tile. We also applied an epoxy coating in the garage.
