San Marcos Pool Deck Repair with Classic Texture

SUNDEK of Austin repaired a pool deck at a student apartment complex in San Marcos, TX, seamlessly blending the new with the old.
At Bishops Square Apartments in San Marcos, TX, SUNDEK of Austin repaired much of the surface, resolving spots where the concrete coating was chipping and peeling.

Students who live at Bishops Square apartments near Texas State University have access to a fully equipped fitness center, fully furnished apartments, and a swimming pool with a sun deck and poolside cabanas, among other amenities. After years of use by thousands of residents, property management at the apartment complex decided that it was time to update the damaged pool deck. They reached out to SUNDEK of Austin to find out what could be done.

When SUNDEK of Austin visited the site, they observed cracking and chipping on much of the deck which had previously been installed by another construction company. Sales representative Zach Wheeler says that although resurfacing the entire pool deck is always the best option, sometimes that’s just not in the budget for the client. Adaptable and willing to work with clients’ budgets and needs, Wheeler and his team agreed to repair where the knockdown texture was fading.

“It’s challenging to just address particular problem spots,” says Zach. “Especially when the whole thing really needs to be replaced.” But crews mapped out the 4,100 square foot deck, identifying 740 square feet of it that would need to be repaired. They documented the deck, taking lots of pictures and making careful notes on the pictures to make sure everyone was on the same page as far as what needed to be repaired and what should be left alone.

To blend the repaired spots in with the existing surface, SUNDEK of Austin crews used Classic Texture in Indian Wheat. They even added custom scorelines where it was needed to create cohesion between the repaired areas and the rest of the surface.

Although it’s practically impossible to color match exactly, Zach and his crews got very close, using the color Indian Wheat to match the existing deck. They used Classic Texture to match the texture, and even added scorelines where needed to make sure the repaired spots blended in with the rest of the deck. Classic Texture is SUNDEK’s knockdown texture, an acrylic water-based coating that can be customized in a variety of ways to meet client preferences.

In the end, SUNDEK of Austin was able to help the client, repairing all problem spots and blending them in as much as possible to create a reinforced, durable surface that’s comfortable and safe for apartment residents to walk and lounge on.
