Located in a college town, Cheatham Street Flats, and upscale apartment complex in San Marcos, TX, has the many conveniences that come along with living in an urban setting, and it’s also a convenient place in and of itself. This pet-friendly living space boasts a 24/7 fitness center, a gaming deck, coffee bar, a viewing deck with a jumbo TV wall, and more. This type of living space is deserving of the best surface solutions for its outdoor areas, which SUNDEK of Austin provided.
Free Analysis & EstimateAn apartment complex in a college town will obviously experience a large amount of foot traffic—and in this case, pet traffic—so it was critical for the owners to choose a durable surface material for the Outdoor Experience Area which includes a patio, walkways, and steps.
For these three spaces, SUNDEK of Austin installed Classic Texture with Aggregate Effects. Classic Texture is by far the most well-known of the SUNDEK products. Developed in 1970 and beloved ever since, Classic Texture is known for being slip resistant, stain resistant, and remains cool even during hot summer months—keeping it comfortable to walk on.
Also called “knockdown texture” in the industry, Classic Texture is sprayed onto a surface and then knocked down with a trowel’s edge. This process creates the texture that gives the product its many great qualities. An additional perk of using Classic Texture is that it can be combined with other systems to create a variety of desired aesthetics. In this case, the customer opted for combining it with Aggregate Effects.
More and more, Aggregate Effects is becoming a popular choice. While it’s fitting for both residential and commercial locations, it’s especially in demand in locations that expect to see a lot of foot traffic. Since it’s multicolored, it’s good at hiding dust, dirt, and other debris that may end up on the surface.
Just as important as choosing the right product for a project is choosing the right colors. Light colors are typically ideal, as they tend to keep the surface cooler during hot summer months—especially spots that are exposed to direct sun. For Cheatham Flats, the owners opted for a custom color: Cornwall Slate. For the Aggregate Effects, SUNDEK of Austin used Oyster White and Cumberland. Neutral colors are an optimal choice for just about any style of space.
In total, after SUNDEK of Austin resurfaced the patio, walkways, and steps, they installed Classic Texture with Aggregate Effects on 10,830 square feet of space. The owners at Cheatham Street Flats were pleased with the result: surfaces that would withstand the comings and goings of many residents and visitors (including the four-legged friends) for years to come.
